About ‘In the Hoop’

Embroidery machines have long been used to embroider on existing articles such as towels, hats etc. This blog "ITH Leaf Table Center by Allison Nash from Sweet Pea Machine Embroidery", will guide you through an ITH project from start to finish.

One of the major advantages of having an embroidery machine, that lots of people do not know about, is the added ability to create finished articles “In the Hoop” (ITH). It is much quicker and gives you the ability to create a fully completed item in no time at all.
When doing it “In the Hoop” you do not embroider on already made articles, instead you lay down fabric in the hoop as you go, and actually sew and embroider automatically using your embroidery machine hoop and an ITH design.

If you want to make gifts for friends, sell your items at the markets or keep them for yourself, ITH can be the fastest and most enjoyable way to create your desired items.

In the Hoop Made Easy

‘In the hoop’ is actually very easy to master, and if you take your time and follow our instructions, you can create intricate items that will impress all your friends.

This blog aims to show you how easy it is to create one of Sweet Pea’s most popular designs – the leaf table center.  You can make it in either the 5×7, 6×10 or 7×12 hoop. If you would like to follow along and make one yourself, you can purchase the design here.

Instructions

Watch this short video to see how simple and easy it is to create individual leaves.

Assembling the Leaves Together

Hand stitch or glue the opening closed. (We used fabric glue).

You will need 7 leaves (5×7) or 8 leaves (6×10 and 7×12) to make the table center.

Next, you will need to lay out the leaves as desired.

Place the first two leaves wrong sides together. Pin and stitch along the guideline you sewed earlier in the hoop.

Iron the fold open.

Repeat adding the next leaf to the first two.

Continue all the way around the table center.

Iron the folds down and your beautiful leaf table centre is complete!
