There are several ways you can achieve Linework including the ever-so-popular Redwork with Hatch Embroidery, and these Halloween Linework Napkins are a great example.

You will find great tools in the Digitizing and Auto-Digitizing toolboxes in your Hatch Embroidery Digitizer or in the Auto-Digitizing toolbox for Hatch Embroidery Composer to make the process of turning your graphics into machine embroidery designs very easy.

Each of these tools will give you a different effect.

Linework/Redwork designs are light, effective, and very quick to stitch out.

Creating Linework with Auto-Digitizing

In the Auto-Digitizing toolbox, you will find 3 tools that can be used to digitize outlines. All 3 of them will give you a slightly different look. This toolbox and all the tools that are included in it are available with both Hatch Embroidery Composer and Hatch Embroidery Digitizer.

 1. Click-to-Turning Fill – very narrow satin line

 2. Click-to-Outline – run stitch double line

 3. Click-to-Centerline – run stitch single line

Creating Redwork

If you want to achieve the traditional real Redwork look, you will need to manually digitize elements of your design using the Digitize Open Shapes and Digitize Closed Shapes tools in the Digitize toolbox which is available with Hatch Embroidery Digitizer only. Digitize your outline objects, and select the ones that are touching or crossing each other. Then select the Redwork tool from the Digitize toolbox and hit Enter. The individual objects will now be turned into Redwork and when you open the Sequence docker, you can see that they have been turned into one object.  It will be stitched out in one continuous sequence on your embroidery machine.

The Redwork tool can be found in the Digitizing toolbox and is available with Hatch Embroidery Digitizer only.

What is the Difference between Linework and Redwork?

The big difference is that with classic Redwork, the machine will only go over each line twice and no more. These are called ‘passes’. Hatch Embroidery will automatically calculate and set the best route to achieve this.

Tips:

  • Change the stitch type to Tripple Stitch, Backstitch, or Stemstitch for a different or more interesting look on your Linework/Redwork designs.
  • Use glow-in-the-dark thread for a really spooky look.
